Emission Levy’s implementation is hindered by a failure in the IT system, preventing it from taking effect

The expected initiation of the Emissions Levy implementation did not occur as planned on February 1. Investigations by 3News reveal that the designated processing website (www.Ghana.gov) experienced malfunctions.

Vehicle owners are required to complete online forms exclusively on the Ghana.gov platform before proceeding to pay and obtain their roadworthiness certificates at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA)

As per a statement issued by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Emissions Levy Act, 2023 (Act 1112) was anticipated to be enforced starting from February 1, 2024. The GRA explained that the Act aims to impose taxes on the carbon dioxide equivalent emissions of internal combustion engine vehicles.

The GRA emphasized that this measure aligns with the government’s commitment to curbing greenhouse gas emissions.
