After taking time away from music to focus on completing her education, Ghanaian artiste and dancer Kimmy Afro is officially making her return to the music scene with a renewed sense of purpose, identity and creativity.
Now based in Germany, Kimmy Afro says music has always been an integral part of her identity, and her decision to return is driven by a desire to keep her creative journey alive.
“Just as before, music has always been a part of me,” she says. “The main reason I have decided to return to music is primarily to keep my path in creativity alive.”
A New Sound, A New Identity
Kimmy Afro is set to release a new single in September, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in her musical career.
According to the artiste, her comeback will introduce fans to a fresh sound while revealing a more authentic representation of who Kimmy Afro has become. She describes the upcoming project as a carefully curated blend of classic influences and innovative branding, promising something fresh while staying connected to the artistic qualities that have always defined her.
Despite her extended break from the music scene, Kimmy Afro says she never viewed her absence as a permanent departure.
“I always knew I would be back,” she explains. “What mostly kept my belief alive was my inner intuition, deeply rooted in pushing through, though others may have believed otherwise due to circumstances that arose.”
Germany, Ghana and the Journey of Creativity
Kimmy Afro’s life in Germany has also played an important role in shaping her artistic identity. She describes the experience as a journey that provided her with the emotional insight, maturity and balance needed to reignite her creativity.
“The road was tough, not rosy,” she says, explaining that Germany’s history and spirit of resisting destruction and rebuilding what is believed to be lost have influenced her outlook and become part of her artistic identity.
Although she has strong roots in Ghana and currently lives in Germany, Kimmy Afro believes music knows no borders.
“Music connects all,” she says. “Others may like it, others may not. Everyone has preferences, but to me, I feel my music has a little something for everyone.”
More Than Just Music
Kimmy Afro’s creativity extends far beyond music. She is also a passionate dancer with a strong connection to performing arts.
Dance, she says, remains an important part of her creative expression, with projects that combine music, dance and performance already in the works.
“I do enjoy dance and performing arts,” she reveals. “There are incorporated projects to also spark public interest coming soon.”
And when she’s not making music or dancing, Kimmy Afro can be found in another creative space the kitchen.
Cooking is another passion she enjoys, particularly because it gives her an opportunity to bring happiness to others through food. Her most confident dish? Ghana’s much-loved waakye.
“My most confident dish is waakye,” she says with a laugh. “Generally speaking, I enjoy cooking and bringing joy to others through satisfaction.”
Embracing the Spotlight
As a female artiste with fans both in Ghana and internationally, Kimmy Afro understands that returning to the spotlight comes with expectations. Her focus, however, remains on staying true to herself, inspiring others and continuing to grow.
“Most important to me is being the best version of me people can truly look up to,” she says.
That philosophy appears to sit at the heart of her new chapter personal growth, self-belief and authenticity.

As she re-enters the music scene, Kimmy Afro is also opening the door to collaborations with artistes from Ghana, Germany and beyond.
She says she is not restricting herself to particular artistes or genres and would be happy to work with creatives at any level, provided there is a genuine artistic connection.
“All artistes have great sounds and unique taste. It would be a pleasure to work with every single one, small or big,” she says.
For Kimmy Afro, the most important element of any collaboration is the chemistry, sound and creative contribution both artistes bring to the table.
“I’m not picky,” she explains. “What matters is sound and input into the creative process we are in to produce magic for our listeners.”
A Different Kimmy Afro
Looking back at her time away from music, particularly while balancing education, life and creativity in Germany, Kimmy Afro says the experience taught her the importance of investing in herself.
Her philosophy moving forward is simple: build yourself, take control and love yourself unconditionally.
“What I’ve learned is to always invest in myself no matter how little and to always take control. Build myself and love myself unconditionally,” she says.

Kimmy Afro’s upcoming September release is aimed particularly at hustlers, with a special message for women who continue to demonstrate strength, ambition and resilience in a world she describes as largely shaped by men.
The song encourages women to recognise their worth, embrace their power and continue investing in themselves.
Titled “I LIKE MONEY,” the song carries a playful yet relatable message built around something almost everyone can identify with.
“We all like money,” Kimmy Afro says.
With her return to music, Kimmy Afro is not simply releasing another song. She is introducing a renewed version of herself one shaped by education, life experiences, resilience, creativity and an unwavering belief in her artistic journey.
